You Are Only As Good As Your Last Rodeo

You can substitute a lot of things at the end of that statement.

"You are only as good as your last ____________."

Film makers would say their last film.  Authors would say their last novel.  A salesperson would say their last sale.  It doesn't matter what you fill in the end of that statement with; just make it relevant to your situation.  This mantra reminds me that it isn't in my best interests (ever) to get cocky just because I did something really good yesterday, last week, or last year.

It reminds me that to just to continue to maintain the level of success I have today, I can't become complacent.  And if I want to grow, I may need to do something different altogether. It is unfortunate, but true, that attention spans and memories are short.  If we are looking to level up and take our craft to the next level, that requires innovation and creativity.

We can't rest on our laurels and do what we've always done.  That is the quickest way to becoming average, and average is at best unmemorable. At worst, it results in the loss of what made us special to begin with.

Don't Be Average

We are eleven days into the new year.  There is still time to leverage all of the New Year's resolution goodness to strategise about how you are going to take your business to the next level.  It may be a new product, service, process, joint venture, etc., but whatever it is, make sure that it is a game changer for your customers.

It's easy to do what you've always done.  It's easy to copy what your competitors are doing.

It is incredibly hard these days to be innovative and create a unique experience that no one has seen before.  That's why everyone isn't doing it.

That's why if YOU can do it, you'll not only set yourself apart from your competition, but you'll be upping the game on yourself.

What are you doing different or better this year to change your game?
